General Volunteering Policies
There are no major restrictions for volunteering at Calcutta House. We do not ask for references, but we require that all volunteers sign a confidentiality form to protect resident’s privacy. We generally accept volunteers who are 18 years of age and over (we occasionally have opportunities for high school juniors and seniors.)  Experience working with people with HIV/AIDS is a plus, but not a requirement.  Being a relatively small organization, we have limited volunteer opportunities at any given time, but we are always willing to give tours, explore future volunteer possibilities or refer someone to another agency with a volunteer program.

Volunteer Impact
Calcutta House was founded by volunteers (Missionary Brothers of Charity) and was staffed maintained by volunteers for quite some time before it had a paid staff.  In fact, our former executive director, Sr. Joanne Whitaker, began as a volunteer at Calcutta House and was instrumental in turning a grass roots organization into a professionally staffed, model facility.  Volunteers have been and continue to be a vital part of our mission here at Calcutta House.

To become a Calcutta House volunteer, you can open an MSWord version of our Volunteer Application here, save it to your computer, fill it out, and then you may fax, email, or mail to us today!
